Business value lens

Even with the understanding of the value of data sharing to projects and its innovation and competitiveness enhancement, organisations often struggle to translate data sharing and data ecosystems into assets for their businesses. Managing complex data ecosystems, their multiple roles, and the value exchanged among their participants are some identified challenges in data sharing projects. The Business Value Lens was developed to bridge the void left between organisations and the unlocked data sharing potential. The lens is a comprehensive approach aiming to guide companies and organizations participating in a project to better explore its value creation and exchange and, ultimately, identify the most suitable business models for different stakeholders. It is based on real-world challenges of stakeholders related to data sharing and data ecosystems. The business value approach targets economic and societal aspects, through analysis of relevant data-sharing aspects, for instance, governance, trust, and incentives, among others, in an interactive, structured, and hierarchical manner.
